Recent Crocodile Attacks in Australia. As recent as yesterday another person, a total of 4 people in the last 18 months have been taken by Crocodiles in Far Northern Australia. More accurately, the Northern Territory. I cannot emphasis enough how important it is for people visiting Far Northern Australia to educate themselves about the dangers these waterways contain. It is not difficult, it is quite simple... DO NOT swim in these waterways. DO NOT stand to close to the waters edge. DO NOT set up camp sites on the edge of riverbanks. As in the case of the fisherman being attacked yesterday. Unfortunately he was fishing on the edge of the Adelaide River . ( extremely high in Crocodile habitat ) He stepped into the shallows to retrieve a fishing hook when he was taken. Thats all it takes, Crocodiles are opportunistic feeders, they are extremely patient, they will watch the movement and habits of people for hours , sometimes days and maybe not do anything. You will not know they are there BUT if an opportunity presents itself they WILL attack. In this case, it was the man stepping into the shallows to retrieve his hook. People, please do not be discouraged from visiting these beautiful regions of our country but PLEASE take a few very basic and simple precautions and you wont have a problem.
