Recently Erie Pa sent me an fb friend request, to which I never responded. Im not going to go on an Erie bashing tirade here, but as far as Im concerned, Erie has done absolutely nothing for me or any career advancement Ive tried to acquisition throughout my time here. Basically, an artist like myself that does not consign to more traditional decorum, i.e., art that matches the sofa, tend to be brushed-off or ignored completely only to gain any substantial success by Erie standards after being acknowledged by a select few individuals. And if ya dont know who that is, then you might as well give up any sense of integrity and start painting lighthouses. So when I see ridiculous things like whats in the attached link , it not only bothers me on a level that it impedes freedom of speech in the form of art, but it also makes me wonder if Erie will ever come around to embrace new culture, to branch out and grow, to allow its artists to prosper and develop new ideas. Incidentally, Ive seen graffiti all over town for as long as I can remember, and I have no doubt that will change simply by stripping these drab Erie walls of any creativity and life whatsoever. And what is the goal here anyway? To have an old rundown retirement community? Maybe a stagnant hovel for the homeless and disenfranchised? More housing development that no one cares to own? I guess I dont understand and have since begun looking elsewhere to further my personal needs. Bottom line, Erie has its bright spots, and thats only found in its people as far as I can tell, and now it seems those people may not even be allowed to speak in their own way...and unless you consider those individuals who hold you back and shit on your dreams the moment you begin to make progress in your life as friends, Erie has never been a friend to me at all.
