~Recently I saw a post about putting cameras on police officers.I have been doing some thinking about this idea and have some thoughts I would like to share. We have become a surveillance society. I know it is probably not news to anyone(who hasnt been living under a rock for the past 25 or so years!) but just the same, That is the case. I wont pretend to be in agreement with this trend. I remember when there were no cameras on traffic lights and street corners. Guess what, they have not made America, (generally speaking) a safer place.I remember working for a certain man,who was thinking about adding a few in his restaurant to watch his employees. He asked for my opinion, so I told him of the environmental changes I thought it would create. Gone would be the laid back atmosphere of that particular restaurant, replaced with an atmosphere of suspicion and weirdness. Thankfully, He opted against the idea in the end. Remember, there is always someone trying to sell cameras at the base of this trend. With those words out of the way, this is how I hope to see this idea implemented. Let us assume, there are still some good police officers out there as Im sure you will agree there are. Why should their rights be violated in this way, Why should they be presumed guilty? There needs to be a reason. This needs to be a form of discipline. How about, the camera is there for those officers who are alleged to have abused someone. This would allow new officers coming into the field the opportunity to act honorably. The cameras could help police dept. officials to keep in check these abuses of power. so, I can see the value of the concept, but this culture we are living in~ has become a thoughtless engine which drives fear into infinity. See, if you can strap a camera to anyone because that might do something wrong, then we might as well have one connected to each and every person that is born. I mean, who knows what crimes todays babies will commit tomorrow? Do you see where that logic will lead us? We have already bought into way too much of this nonsense!
