Recently, I was challenged to take the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. While Im in full support of the good work the ALS Society does, I wanted to take this opportunity to shift the focus to a cause here in Alberta that is very near and dear to me. This past Labour Day Monday--September 1, 2014--at the Calgary District Labour Council (CDLC) BBQ, I undertook my own challenge: A Potato Bucket Challenge for Albertas farmworkers, dumping a bucket of baby potatoes over my head at the Famous Five Square in Calgary. As you may know, Albertas farmworkers still lack the basic workers rights--including exclusion from the Alberta Labour Relations Code, Occupational Health and Safety, Child Labour Standards and Workers Compensation--that Albertas other labourers receive. I ask you to support the Farmworkers Union of Alberta in their fight to ensure the safety of the men, women and children who put food on our tables every day. You can mail your donation to the Farmworkers Union of Alberta at: Box 411 Bow Island, AB T0K 0G0 My apologies for the poor audio quality! We experienced some technical difficulties and didnt realize it until after the fact. Thus--the captioning. The sound improves at approximately the half-way mark.
