Recently Mayor Ellis said, “While others are busy blaming me and making up excuses for their failures in this important issues that affects our city. I am busy working…..” First off, Mayor Ellis is to blame. I spoke with Representative Carey Johnson with Kentucky Division of Water yesterday and he said informing the public about the revised flood map did not start the 90 day appeal process, to which Mayor Ellis keeps trying to defend himself on. Mr. Johnson also said on December 9, 2011, when the preliminary maps were sent to the community officials was the day the public could have known about the revised maps. Mayor Ellis said that Mr. Johnson was not being truthful about the 90 day process; however, my question is “what would Mr. Johnson have to gain if he wasn’t being truthful?” I don’t think Mr. Johnson is running for a political office. In the latter part of Mayor Ellis’ statement, he said others were “making up excuses for their failures” I don’t know who Mayor Ellis is referring to, but I do know he does not want to admit to his mistakes. Also, Mayor Ellis recently said “. We have at least 3 appeals to send to FEMA. I will not put them out on Facebook as they could hurt our chances of winning the appeal process. I look at this as an offensive coordinator on a football field you would not tell the defense what play he is running so why would we tell FEMA what our plan is? I ask that all of you remember. It doesnt matter what happened 3,4,5 or even 10 years ago all that matters is what we are going to do today to change it.” First off, I don’t think FEMA will be reading Mayor Ellis’ Facebook page. I don’t think they care about his page or mine as far as that goes. Secondly, IT DOES MATTER Mayor Ellis! An appeal process should have started in 2012 and it could have started in 2012. THIS IS NOT A FOOTBALL GAME Mayor Ellis, you are dealing with people’s lives. I wonder if it’s possible that the revised flood maps were kept from the public because they wanted to start on a plan for the water detention basin; thinking that this would give them a boost for political gain near election time. Maybe they were thinking “we came to save the day” but in reality the water detention basin will only cost the residents of Shepherdsville more money. I wonder if the mayor can really promises us no raised taxes for such a project. I wonder if the mayor can promise we will be protected from any future floods with this water retention basin. And I wonder if the mayor can promise that the water retention basin can save us money on our flood insurance while we are also paying raised taxes for the water retention basin. These are questions that need to be answered.
