Recently a lot of people have been wondering how to start incorporating healthy, whole foods into their lifestyle. One way that has seemed to work with many is to eliminate one thing at a time and replace it with a healthier option. For example: Replace canned fruit with real fruit. Actually replacing canned food altogether is a healthier choice. Anything in a can does not provide adequate nutrition, not to mention the majority of cans contain BPA. Start simple: If you absolutely cannot live without, let’s say ketchup; opt for an all-natural brand that contains more natural ingredients. Once this transition is comfortable, try switching out more. Eventually, it will become an easy choice to use natural verses commercial. A little background on what commercial foods are. These are just a few ingredients found in popular products such as condiments, salad dressings, cookies and crackers: High Fructose Corn Syrup, Artificial Flavor, Partially Hydrogenated, Yellow 5, Red 40, Blue 1, Sodium Benzoate, and Monosodium Glutamate. These ingredients should not be consumed. Yet the majority of products on the shelf contain them. With this in mind, a basic rule to follow is to shop the perimeter of the grocery store. Fresh, organic fruits and vegetables, dry beans and legumes, nuts and seeds are the better choice and you will not find the above listed in them.
