Recently me and my friend were talking something in Tamil infront of a North Indian. He thought we dont know Hindi and asked us are u not ashamed that u are not able to talk in Hindi, which is ur national language? I gave an answer to that person like this in Hindi... Hi Bro... we studied that language in school days and we even know to read and write in it... but y we have to talk in it wen we can converse better in Tamil or English? Its our wish to talk in Hindi or not... By the way please go and check the maps of old Major North Indian empires like Mauryan, Mughal empire... etc. Mostly you cant find heart of Tamilnadu like Madurai, Trichy, Thanjavur inside their empire, because we had our own language, culture, country, literature for nearly 5000years... Its just around 200-250years before we got united... We are proud to have a native language like Tamil and to converse in it... The beauty of India is its diversity. Its better to preserve it, rather than trying to erase the identity and history of some people .... I asked him to talk atleast few words in any language other than Hindi or English, he escaped silently from the place... I even heard lot of people from other countries also asking the same question to some people from Tamilnadu... The best reply for them is asking them to learn History of India(especially Tamilnadu) from different sources in internet rather than just believing what is given in books to them in School...
