Recently posted on Liber L. vel Bogus - The Real Confession of Aleister Crowley as a comment. :) The problem with Crowleys followers is that a solution to any of the hidden ciphers in Liber Al is not acceptable unless they think of first themselves. The colossal egos focused upon these matters seem only to be matched by the crass stupidity of regarding anything presented by Crowley as literally true. Just as seekers after literal truth have, more or less, ruined the spirit of the old aeon religious institutions the barmy army of new aeon cult followers simply repeat this folly. To read Crowley with any real chance of understanding his perspective one must be capable of intuiting nuance and metaphor. From the history of comments on a certain leading new aeon bulletin board, there seems little chance of ACs writings and work receiving, say, the same kind of consideration which a GCSE (High School qualification) student would be expected to demonstrate in any critique of poets such as Wilfred Owen or T.S. Eliot. Sad for Aleister Crowley and for the rest of us who might reasonably expect to look towards contemporary students of his work for any kind of informed explanation or commentary. There seems to be a clear agenda on the part of those who have placed themselves in a position to make money from Crowleys legacy to stifle any genuine independent study of AL. Certainly, none of the commentators Ive read lately n the message boards seem interested in applying any form of genuine cryptographic method in the matter of finding solutions. When such solutions are presented, even when they lead to incredibly deep revelations such as restoring the pre-Qabalah tradition of seven palaces and the Temple Calendar of King Solomon, they are rejected out of hand. On forums such as lashtal, which seems to be a glee club for old men wanking themselves off together, this shortsightedness is most pronounced. Appeals to the kind of subtle intelligence needed to study Crowley in that quarter are derided because they lack the sublime simplicity required to meet the pea-brain requirements of those gathered there. That Crowley fabricated the text of Liber AL is by no means equivalent to believing that the book is lacking in the same kind of Cryptographic genius the man brought to so many of his poetic and mystical works. Yes, there are hidden ciphers in the work. Crowley said so in his Blue Equinox. Its such a pity that no one, save Bethsheba (Alrah), seems to take it upon themselves to make a study of cryptography before approaching the work. No, any solution has to be dumbed down to both agree with their pitifully inadequate understanding of even 101 levels of cryptography and to fall in line with their patently transparent attempts to profit from misleading the general public as to their supposed authority in matters Thelemic. Richard Cole has presented some incredible scholarship in his attempts to extract some sense from the continuing lies, yes lies, perpetuated by occultists with one eye on the book of the law and one eye upon their bank balance. For that I say Thank You Richard. To Richards critics, I would like to point out that their patent stupidity (there is no Santa Claus and Jesus wasnt born in a stable) will be noted by History. If thats the way you want to be remembered guys, just carry on wearing the blinkers - but remember History is watching...... https://youtube/watch?v=P_F2z_fCS7o
