Recently, the Police told a friend of mine that violins (et al) are being targeted by thiefs. They will even disguise themselves as police and approach you to talk about your intrument and to ask questions about your intrument, in order to find out its value. If people think that worthless violin in their attic (that has a fake stradivaruis label) is worth millions, then just imagine what the thieves think looking at your violin case. Im not trying to scare anyone, but never put your violin on the seat next to you, or out it down to look at a map. Keep it on you at all times (shoulder staps), or hold it upright in your lap on the train. OK it might not be that comfortable but you wont risk forgetting it or have somone sneak off with it while you look out the window.
