Recently the amount of what I call, pulp fiction journalism has increased exponentially. Social media platforms are largely to blame as anyone can now become a journalist without enforcing the norms and standards (of fact-checking) before posting something that pleases them. Most recently the arrest of City Press editor, Ferial Haffajee being a case in point. More often than not these posts are malicious and not based on fact. The sad point of this whole post is that people blindly share or regurgitate the crap because it feeds into what they want to believe. Soon we wont be able to decipher what is truth and what isnt and many people - myself included, will just stop posting corrections on all those eroneous posts shared by the idiots of this world.
