Reckon I have been around the block a few times and in 1995 even circumnavigated the globe (San Diego, Minneapolis, London, Persian Gulf, Sydney, Honolulu, and San Diego) within a ten day period. Nevertheless, dont think anything has compared to the last year of my life. Since last July, Kay had hip replacement surgery, Steve had spine and open-heart surgery, my granddaughter arrived but my daughter-in-law was in danger during her birth, my son had a difficult divorce, and my grandsons moved into my house. Guess I have asked my close friend, Reverend Bob Fant to say more prayers in the last 12 months than the previous 51 years years combined. Nevertheless, from these intense dark times, the sunshine seems to feel pretty good. Kay and Steve continue to improve. Genia is healthy and Miss Drew is a joy. Robert has started a new life and adventure. However, the energy of two four-year olds has rejuvenated my soul and given me a second chance of many things I missed when enduring years of arduous sea-duty and 30 years as a naval officer. It is said that you cant go back in life but I have found that is not true. In a college town, I can enjoy college football and smart young people that keep me young as well. With Oliver and Emery, I have the challenges, frustrations, and pure enjoyment that comes with little kids. The lake house is not unsimilar to the days at my grandmothers lake house when I was boy. Finally, the Decaturville/Parsons, Tennessee community mirrors the Horatio/DeQueen communities of my high school days. So I guess I am so very blessed and would not trade my current life for hundreds of trips around the world, albeit, I need to do a few hundred projects that have remained dormant for too long. Well, gotta run...going to fix breakfast for Oliver and Emery. Life is Good.
