Records continue to tumble and medals continue to be won on day 3 of the Victorian Age Swimming Championships. James Curran meant business from the start of the 13 years 200 Backstroke, cementing his victory in the first 100 metres. Winning gold in 2.15.62, Curran broke his brother Thomas’ Tasmanian record set in 2010. Jacob Vincent also secured gold in the 15 years 400m Freestyle, winning the event easily in 4.00.00. Thomas Curran narrowly missed claiming another Tasmanian record in the 17-18 years 200m Freestyle, winning silver in the credible time of 1.53.60. Freya Jetson continued to demonstrate her versatility, breaking the Tasmanian record in the 13 years 200m Backstroke and winning bronze in 2.26.93. 11 year Taylor Raine made her finals debut in the 50m Freestyle lowering her personal best time further to record 31.22. Tim Belstead finished well in the final of the 17-18 years 200m Breaststroke to record 2.28.38 and finish 5th as did Olivia Sanderson in the 17-18 years 200m Freestyle, finishing 9th. This morning’s heats produced some excellent swims with the following swimmers recording personal best times; James Belstead, Maxwell Powell, Taylor Raine, Stefanie McCarthy, Christopher Boult, Joshua Wells, Sam Canny, Amelie McCarthy, Simon Watt, Henry Shepherd, Sophie Botterill-James, Joshua Wylie, Morgen Hawkins and Angus Denholm.
