Recruiting Started Yesterday Part 1 As we know at NCSA, “The recruiting process started yesterday!” There is no doubt this can be an overwhelming thought– and the fact of the matter is, the recruiting process IS starting earlier and earlier for student-athletes in more-and-more sports. Traditionally we think of college sports like basketball and football to have an earlier jump on scouting prospects and gaining commitments, but that’s simply not the case anymore. As the Los Angeles Times recently featured on the cover of their sports section, baseball has been one of the next sports to follow suit. With college recruiters taking more time to attend youth leagues and tournaments, scouting talent in the 13-14year-old age group, the recruiting process is evolving to include a much younger demographic. While there are still many NCAA rules in place as far as contact from coaches and levels of commitment from players, this trend is something student-athletes and their families need to be privy to for optimum exposure early on.
