Reflections on Samson I did not have time to read yesterday, so - TopicsExpress

Reflections on Samson I did not have time to read yesterday, so I covered a lot this morning (Judges 10-18). Interesting read that makes one wonder about the people God has chosen to deliver his people. One such guy is Samson. Sunday School made us believed he was one of the greatest man who ever lived, what with his supernatural strength and long hair. But really reading his life story cuts him to his real size - very human, very unstable, very disobedient, very unherolike. Why did God use him? This part of Samsons life provides a revelation that makes us thank God for his grace. God did not chose him to deliver Israel because of his special powers. Instead he was chosen to show that despite his failings God would turn to him in mercy and grace and use him to deliver Israel. He therefore points us to our real deliver, the One I call the Greater Samson in all counts. Unlike Samson, he is perfect, sinless, obedient, righteous, selfless, sacrificing, and honouring to his Father who sent him. On a personal reflection, in some way you and I are like Samson - unqualified for anything for God. But his gracious call qualifies us for his kingdom. Let us be thankful for His call, his grace, and whatever He has called us to do for him. PD
