Reflexology What is Reflexology? Reflexology is an alternative medicine method based on the theory that specific areas of the hands and feet correspond to areas of the body, and that through gentle massage and manipulation of these points, relief can be brought to a variety of acute and chronic conditions. How does it work? As touched upon above, reflexology works upon the principle that ares of the hands and feet correspond to areas within the body; this includes major organs. A treatment session can last between 40 minutes and an hour, during which the recipient will be asked to sit on a relining chair, or lie on an appropriate surface and remove their socks and shoes. Once the feet have been cleansed treatment can begin, starting with the gentle relaxation period which is two-fold in that it helps relax the recipient and also assists the therapist in locating any problematic areas, or areas where the recipient is particularly receptacle to treatment. What can it treat? A reflexology treatment is pleasant, calm, and soothing. Not only does it relax the recipient but can also assist in the stimulation of the body’s own healing process. It doesn’t claim to act as a cure for everything, but there are numerous conditions that have been successfully treated by this method, including: Migraines Sinus problems Hormone imbalances Breathing disorders Digestive problems Circulatory problems Back problems Tension & stress Most recipients would describe reflexology treatment as being both very relaxing, and beneficial to them.
