Regarding the change in name of Australia Day. . Sweden has a National Day. It started in 1523 when King Vasa was crowned and today it is celebrated by all residents of Sweden regardless of religion or culture. It brings residents of the state together to celebrate this holiday as well as celebrating diversity. Most people see this day as a significant one due to its feeling of being worthy to live in a free and independent country. Ireland has a National Day it is St. Patricks Day 17th March against war and the main focus is held at the Royal Hospital in Kilmainham. Denmark has a National Day on the 5th of June and honours the constitution of 1953. Norway 17th May. It commemorates the 1814 date when the nations constitution was signed. France has Bastille Day 14th July when the prison was stormed by the great unwashed. Germany it is the 3rd of October and represents the Unification of East and West Germany. Canada has the 1st of July when all their colonies joined together. The USA has the 4th of July and it is declaring independence in 1776 from Great Britain. Egypt has their Revolution Day on July 23. . Australia Day is the 26th of January and should be to commemorate the coming of civilisation to one of the oldest continents although a minority of people want to change the focus. . I guess once again the politically correct may want to do something unimportant and change the name. Why? It has been Australia Day on the 26th of January since 1935 making it older historically than the National Days of Germany, Jamaica, Israel, Thailand, Canada, India, Pakistan, China, Zimbabwe, Egypt, Russia, The Netherlands and Italy as examples. . In fact that makes Australia Day historically older than the vast majority of countries that populate the Earth. . If so many other countries have National Days and they are for so many historical reasons why attempt to change Australian history for what is just the sake of political correctness as viewed by some people? . The politically correct if they wanted to do something why not protest about what is happening in Fiji? . I wonder what would be said if I pointed out that Fiji has 10th October 2011 as their National Day. What if I said to the PC people that Bainimarama’s evil dictatorship and junta now controls all aspects of life in Fiji at the barrel of a gun and has done so since 2007. Where were the politically correct politicians then? I do not recall the Unions marching in the streets or the aborigines here protesting in favour of the Fijian people. . Australia is peaceful with plenty for the majority yet a reign of terror exists in Fiji; corruption is rampant; and so is poverty. Promised elections in Fiji have no credibility as holding credible elections would expose the current unlawful rulers to prosecution. The junta and all its actions have been held to be illegal, by Fiji’s Appeal court Ruling of 2009. . No, that appears to need thought. It is so much easier it seems to challenge (and even change Australian history via Wikipedia) rather welcome what has actually improved historically for Australians and particularly for those that wish to help themselves. . youtube/watch?v=MLLMfWmiC0E . Anyway it is just a thought for the day.
