Regarding today’s CrossTalk and info wars: As a rule I do not - TopicsExpress

Regarding today’s CrossTalk and info wars: As a rule I do not criticize my guests in public, I will maintain this rule in this post. The program we recorded last night demonstrates what I have been observing and grappling with for some time. When I have guests who all agree, we call the recording “Chorus Talk.” This format can be informative, but not very compelling as a viewing experience. I don’t mind this, though. Having guests shunned by the mainstream is part of CrossTalk’s public service mission. Then there are programs like today. When mainstream talking points are challenged all hell breaks lose – it becomes a pitched battle and nothing much is accomplished. But this exercise does demonstrate mainstream talking points rarely stand up to scrutiny when challenged. Mainstream talking points always assume the right to frame the discussion and also assume “ownership of the facts.” Doing both denies real discussion (which is of course done intentionally). Thus, my favorite saying (beyond “CrossTalk Rules?) is “you have right to your opinion, but not your own facts.”
