Regardless of your views, today was an historic day in Illinois. Im just back from a party at the Govs Mansion. Those who supported Gay Marriage are celebrating a hard fought victory. No doubt.. those opposed, are licking their chops. But at certain times in covering the Illinois Legislature, there are days where -- whatever your views -- the process of democracy seems to work. So many days it seems not to. Its easy to feel like were doomed, and defeated. So this particular issue aside -- it is rewarding to watch an issue that has been put to the test for a long time, and come to a conclusion after a hard fought battle by both sides of the issue. And thats what ultimately matters.. that voters matter, that their voice is heard.. and unlike living in a place like Iran or N. Korea... democracy works. Its that very process... that ensures those who lost today.. can continue to apply their political voice, can continue to be heard. Some times you win, sometimes you lose... but were all so blessed to live in a country where we can impact the course of government actions. God Bless America !
