Rehab work to start in February says DPWH Friday, 24 January 2014 00:00 Four months after Zambo siege The Department of Public Works and Highways 9 (DPWH9) will already commence the rehabilitation work in February for areas affected by the Zamboanga siege starting with the construction the road network of the affected areas. DPWH 9 Regional Director Jorge U. Sebastian Jr., said in an interview, “As of today, we are preparing the plan which we expect to complete by the end of this month. That includes estimates and it will be presented to the secretary so that the funds will be downloaded to our office so we can start the work maybe by February. We are given only 12 months to complete the road network of those affected areas.” Included in their program of work are widening or construction of roads including the necessary boardwalk for houses on stilts. The boardwalk will be over 1 kilometer and will connect the different barangays in the conflict areas. It will be utilized by people who will be residing in houses on stilts to be constructed by the National Housing Authority (NHA). The plan was conceptualized by the UP Planades. Sebastian said the president has given a total of P3.7 Billion for the total rehabilitation. The DPWH were alloted around P1.5 Billion for the road network. “We are eagerly waiting for the funding so that we can immediately start the work.” Sebastian said. (R.G. A A.
