The delegation headed by senior directing staff member Air Vice Marshal Vipin Indira Padmanabhan comprised 17 student officers from different countries. Having received them on arrival to the Headquarters SF-J, Maj. Gen. Perera gave a comprehensive briefing on present development rapidly taking place in Jaffna with the dawn of peace.Answering a question, he said that military will be gradually scaled down since patriotic soldiers who contributed to liberate the country from terrorism cannot be abruptly sent home. During his briefing Jaffna Commander explained how the LTTE ordered Jaffna civilians numbering around 500,000 to leave their homesteads within 48 hours in 1995 making them displaced. He told the delegation they all were resettled after Jaffna was liberated from the grip of terrorists in 1996. “Local extremist politicians cannot divorce from Diaspora owing to financial benefits they get. Raising funds by sections of Tamil Diaspora is continuing. Considerable potion goes to their pockets and the remaining is spent to keep the LTTE ideology going. However, the concept of a separate state within the motherland is only a dream,” SF Commander stressed. He further said, “Rehabilitation of Ex- LTTE members and Reintegration them was a big challenge since they were rejected by society. However, they were given recognition through education and vocational training before the process was successfully completed.”
