“Remember His marvelous works which He has done, His wonders and the judgments of His mouth.” - Psalm 105:5 Moses and Paul both loved to tell their stories of deliverance. Moses frequently reminded the children of Israel of how God delivered them from their enemies and how God commanded them to honor Him and follow His law. Paul, likewise, told that story, but he also added his encounter with Christ on the Damascus road–and he shared it often. God has indeed done great things and His miracles are echoed repeatedly throughout the books of the Bible. God has done great things in history as well. Just ask Rosa, Martin or Bishop Tutu. We will generally give God credit for His move in history every February. Yet, God has done even more great things that are not recorded in either scripture or history. God has answered prayers on the oncology wards, death row and interstate highways. God has even answered your most fervent prayers. Yes, He has done great things. There is power in this remembrance, which is one reason we are taught to create memories for our children. In our own lives, when God has done great things, we tend to give Him immediate thanks and then sometimes, we move on. We fail to tell the full story of God’s intervention more than once or twice. In fact, in our revisionist personal histories, we may describe momentous life events with little or no mention of God’s role. The wonderful husband we met at Wal-Mart, the foot that did not have to be amputated, or the money that came from nowhere to save the day—are all stories that we may tell, but often without a focus on God. We leave it to others to evangelize and witness for Christ. When we omit God from our life history, our stories of faith become superficial. We, then, diminish the full appreciation of what God can do and will do, when we find ourselves in difficult places. If your life includes testimony of how God has brought you thus far, you become more resilient when challenges come. Others around you may be contemplating suicide when the stock market plummets, mayhem invades or predators loom near. But your remembrance of the God you know and of what God has done in your life, will not only carry you to a place of power and victory, but also may well rescue a sinner or sustain a saint. See what happens when you tell the story of God and what He has done in your life. The life you save might change our world. “For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing.” - II Corinthians 2:15 Today, as you gather with family and friends, make some time for storytelling. Just dont forget to tell HIStory. Happy Thanksgiving! MKJ
