Remember Rhoda? The chicken Pascal and I rescued from the side of the road a few months ago? Well, as it turns out, Rhoda is a boy! Which is rather fortunate, because the girls had been sans rooster since the passing of my other boy a few months ago as well. Here he is posing for the camera. I guess we need to rename him now! Any suggestions! Pascal did a great job cleaning the coop yesterday and filling in a lot of the open holes in the siding that were creating drafts on cold days. Theyre nice and snuggled in now with extra thick pine bedding on the floors and Gimpy (the white chicken in the photo) has her own nesting box that she sleeps in to keep warm at night, since she cant get up into the rafters with the rest of the chickens. Next phase is to fix the remaining holes and replace the chewed up insulation. Who knew chickens liked to peck at foam insulation! ugh! I think Pascal is going to take some of the nice old paneling from the music room renovation and give the chickens a 70s paneled oak decor once the insulation is done. Woot woot!
