Remember that scene from Nemo where little turtle Squirt ends up outside of the current, and his Dad Crush says Let us see how Squirt does flying solo?....well....Evan is not as capable as that little squirt dude...yet. We took him on the Loveland bike trail for the first time and although he rides his bike super well in parking lots and on our street, he got too fast and couldnt recover quick enough. He ended up going off trail and straight into a tree. The poor kid didnt even have the sense enough to bail off his bike before the pending collision. And I think he forgot he had brakes!! Luckily, he was wearing a helmet (as always!) because it saved us a trip to the ER for sure. He was scared, but got back on his bike after a few minutes and rode again. We have some skill work to do, and staying on his side of the trail is a bit dicey, but overall his first day out on the trail was a success. We celebrated with beers and mac-n-cheese.
