Remembering RuthAnn Weiss Community Shiva Saturday, April 19 & Sunday, April 20 7 pm Sabes JCC Gallery (Main Lobby) Please join the Weiss family for a Community Shiva to remember a remarkable woman who is credited for her passion and commitment to the arts in Jewish life. RuthAnn is well known in the Twin Cities arts community for her many years of work as an Arts Administrator and Fund Developer including twenty-five years as Art Director and Cultural Arts Director of the Sabes JCC, Director of the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, Director of Fund Development for East Side Neighborhood Services and Board Chairperson of Stages Theatre Company in Hopkins, MN. RuthAnn had a significant impact on arts organizations and individual artists, both amateur and professional, across all arts disciplines for over thirty years. RuthAnn was instrumental in the development of Identity Magazine, Centre Stage Theater, Stages Theatre Company, Beit Cafe, Minneapolis Jewish Film Festival and Book Festival, RIMON - The Minnesota Jewish Arts Council, and literally hundreds of performances, exhibitions, classes, and one of a kind cultural programs across all art disciplines. RuthAnn died at home on April 9th following a two year battle with a rare disease of the brain (PSP and CBD). As would be typical of RuthAnn, she donated her brain to the Eloise H. Troxel Memorial Brain Bank associated with the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL and the CurePSP Foundation in Timonium, MD. Their mission is to increase awareness of Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP), Corticobasal Degeneration (CBD), and related brain diseases; fund research toward cure and prevention; educate healthcare professional; and provide support, information and hope for affected persons and their families. RuthAnn and her husband Jon, have an endowment fund at the Sabes JCC to support programming and services to people with special needs - The Jon and RuthAnn Weiss Special Needs Endowment Fund, that they hope people will support in memory of RuthAnn.
