Renard Heads to Ivory Coast as Coach Former Zambia coach, Herve - TopicsExpress

Renard Heads to Ivory Coast as Coach Former Zambia coach, Herve Renard, has been named new Ivory Coast coach by the Ivorian FA on Thursday. The 45-year-old Frenchman succeeds his fellow countryman Sabri lamouchi, who stepped down as coach after the country failed at the 2014 World Cup. Renard, who won the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations with Zambia, was part of a three-man shortlist, including former Sporting and Benfica coach Jose Manuel De Jesus and former Rennes coach Frederic Antonetti. The former professional, who played as defender for a couple of French sides, has been tasked to qualify for the upcoming 2015 AFCON in Morocco. Despite the likes of Didier Drogba and Yaya Toure, the Ivory Coast failed to progress past the group stages at the 2014 World Cup and Renard will now have to revamp an ageing squad. Renard also submitted an application for the South African head coach role, but reportedly was never really considered by SAFA.
