Everything is pretty much done, a source told ESPNs Chris Broussard. There are just some little things here and there that need to be worked out, but the Knicks are very confident that this is essentially done. An official announcement may not come until next week, the source said. Jackson will take over the Knicks basketball operations department from current president and general manager Steve Mills, ESPN reported, but Mills will remain an integral part of the Knicks organization. There are also reports that Jackson has held discussion with Steve Kerr to become head coach of the Knicks. Jackson coached Kerr for five seasons with the Chicago Bulls in 1990s. Kerr spent three seasons as the Phoenix Suns general manager, but he has no coaching experience. He now works for TNT but is on record saying he wants to coach next season. Details, including Jacksons job title, how much time he will spend in New York and when he will start the job, are still being worked out. He reportedly turned down a recent offer to coach the team. Jacksons role will be an integral one for the Knicks, unlike when he acted as a consultant for the Detroit Pistons. He will reportedly be paid well to make basketball decisions for the Knicks, although owner James Dolan is expected to have a say. The move could change the way the team does business in that it only currently negotiates with Creative Artists Agency in player and coach representation. Assistant general manager Allan Houston, head coach Mike Woodson, player personnel director Mark Warkentien and star forward Carmelo Anthony are all represented by CAA. One Knicks player recently told ESPN that the CAA ties are an issue in the locker room. You see how guys from CAA are treated differently, the player said. How they get away with saying certain things to coaches. How coaches talk to them differently than they talk to the other guys. Its a problem. Jackson won a combined 11 NBA titles as coach of the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers. Report: Jackson, Knicks finalizing deal .
