Repost: New England Philosophy of Education Society (NEPES) CALL FOR PAPERS The New England Philosophy of Education Society (NEPES) will hold its Annual Meeting at Central Connecticut State University in Connecticut on October 19th, 2013. The keynote speaker for the conference is Dr. Kelly Ann Kolodny, Associate Professor and Department Chair of the Education Department at Framingham State University and mother of three children. Dr. Kolodny’s research focuses on the history of women in schooling, contemporary schooling in the United States, urban educational collaborations and service learning. She has published in Vitae Scholasticae, Historical Journal of Massachusetts, New England Journal of History, Educational Foundations, Educational Studies, The Urban Review, and the National Society for Experiential Education Quarterly. Dr. Kolodny’s teaching interests include foundations of education, educational research and evaluation. She has taught teachers in Naples, Italy and Rota, Spain through Framingham State University’s international education program. With the 175th anniversary of the start of formal, state sponsored teacher education to be celebrated in 2014, Dr. Kolodny will provide a historic presentation about the true pioneers of this movement. The title of her address is Normalites: The Stories of Three Women Teachers Who Were Members of the First Class of the First State Normal School. The Program Committee invites proposals for additional sessions on topics relevant to philosophy of education and philosophic treatment of the problems of education. The committee especially encourages submission of proposals across a wide range of philosophy, history and social contexts of education and foundations of education subject topics, including those by established authors and individuals (including graduate students) who are new in the field or are in the process of developing new work. All proposals should be sent in electronic form as email attachments, preferably in the form of MS Word documents and should adhere to the guidelines that follow. Please send proposals as early as possible, but no later than July 1, 2013, to the program chair, Joss French at [email protected]. Guidelines for Proposals Each proposal should be submitted as a single Word document, which should include the following separated from each other by a page break: • A one-­page cover sheet that lists the title of the paper. It should include the name, affiliation and information of the proposal organizer and for each of the participants. Include email address, mailing address, telephone number and fax number. • An abstract of the proposed paper should be included. It should outline the paper’s focus and rationale. Limit the abstract to 75 words. • A two page proposal (single spaced) which describes the topic, theoretical sources, data sources, findings and significance of the paper. Conference participants are required to pay the $25 registration fee for the conference which includes lunch. All audio visual equipment can be provided at conference.
