Reposted from a friend: One big problem with many people involved in any kind of rescue, whether breed, or non-breed, is that they begin to think its about them.....that by doing good, and feeling good about doing good, the rest of the world should recognize and honor them for it. All the better if they lose money at it, or dont lose money but say they do, both of which serve to reinforce their altruism, sacrifice and expectation of honor by others. Dog rescue is something one may choose to do, to help some dogs and to feel good about it. But thinking that ones trouble is worthy of some recognition by everyone else is misguided. We all do what we can to make a better world. If what one can do is to save a few, or a few dozen or tens of dozens, of dogs, great. But dont be deluded into thinking the reason the dogs exist at all is addressed by the efforts of rescue or by you. The point of the activists, whether sincere or ideological, and where their passion is derived, is that the tragic euthanasias of healthy animals must end. Until then, we in this audience will never be let alone. To do that, the excess births must also end. Which is why I am able to so easily dismiss rescue. It doesnt come close to solving the problem, nor in buying back the social space needed for fanciers, breeders and others who appreciate a thousand years of purebred dog breeding to regain the pride and respect they should have.
