Reposting from my good friend Krstll Anne Pablo Tañedo: Relearned these things yesterday: * A manager is driven by his skills and cunning. A leader is propelled by his values and compassion. * Credibility is the cornerstone of leadership. Managers do things right. Leaders do the right things. * Managers concern themselves with the how while leaders always ask why. They dont follow processes blindly. They question methods because they know that, more than processes, they deal with people and you cant box people in. * Managers rely on control. Leaders inspire trust. They guide, train and coach so well that they do not need to hover over their team members to check if they are doing things right. After all, the test of true leadership is how youre team does when youre not there. * Managers look at the bottomline. All they care about are the tasks and deliverables. They are obsessed with unnecessarily complicating simple things. Leaders, on the other hand, gaze at the horizon. They are visionaries and they simplify things. After all, simple is good. * Managers busy themselves with systems and structures. Leaders triumph with people. * Managers focus on methods and steps while leaders focus on desired results. There are many ways to skin a cat. There isnt just one way. Leaders know this. Lastly, * Its okay to make mistakes. Its okay for things to go wrong sometimes. Why are we so scared of these things? Managers are ashamed of mistakes. They shun negative experiences. Leaders learn from them and become stronger. They are humble enough to acknowledge that they are human. Most importantly, they know their team members are human too. They know that the workplace, the job, the customers and how all these aspects come together are constantly changing. They adapt.
