As April approaches, I dread the end of the month as I have since 2007. A very dear friend, co worker in gv ems,was tragically killed in an mvc, four days after her 35th birthday. She left behind two teenage daughters and one very small grandson, her parents, a grandmother, other related family members. She also left behind a family, not related, that did not deal well with the death, because it was a tragic death of one of their own. We wandered in and out of our directors office all day, on duty or not, and the ems gods smiled on us for our call volume was very light those next few days. Our director said he didnt know what to say or do, so he let us wander in and out, cry with each other or even sit in his office staring off into space. Less that three weeks after this event was ems week. We had a great memorial service planned at the court house square and this lady was supposed to sing there.she had been working extra shifts to make money to record her own CD. This song I have shared here, was written by some medics in okla. Somehow I found this song days before the service.I wrote and told them what had happened and ask if I could play this song for her in her memory.they wrote the most beautiful email back honoring her and giving me permission to play this song.it was not officially recorded yet but they knew we wasnt stealing their song. they said is was an honor to use it this way. The unfinished CD she was making was brought to me and given to me and she did indeed sing that day and continues for many of us who have the copy. For you, Melissa devito, I play this tonight...go rest high on that mountain and keep looking down on us , you are not forgotten. There is a girl at rural metro ems Franklin that I met this year,and from the first day I called her by your name. She knows who she is...as you used to tell me all the time, Im not perfect but I am me...love me for who I am not the way I live my life.the way I live is my choice, how you see me is yours....
