Rescued Hikers On Saturday, September 27, 2014, at 5:13 P.M., deputies from the Riverside County Sheriffs Department, Jurupa Valley Station, responded to the area of Skyline Drive and Burrero Way, Corona, after receiving a call of two hikers in need of rescue within the Cleveland National Forest. One of the hikers, Bryan Payne, age 21, a Riverside resident, was able to call 911 and report he and his friend Christain Oseguera, age 21, a Moreno Valley resident, were stranded on a peak near a group of radio towers. Personnel from the Riverside County Sheriffs Department, Riverside County Mountain Rescue Unit, and Riverside County Sheriffs Department Aviation Unit responded to the area to search for the two men. The Riverside County Sheriffs Department Aviation Unit was able to locate Mr. Payne and Mr. Oseguera on the peak as described. A member of the Riverside County Mountain Rescue Unit rapelled from the aviation unit to their location and was able to secure the hikers and remove them from the peak. Mr. Payne and Mr. Oseguera were not injured and were safely flown to the Corona Airport. The Riverside County Sheriffs Department would like to remind hiking enthusiasts to carry proper equipment for any outdoor excursion. Proper preparedness includes a well-thought-out travel plan shared with friends and family, as well as familiarity with common hiking equipment, such as GPS, maps and compasses, proper clothing and plenty of water. Riverside Mountain Rescue Unit offers several helpful, lifesaving tips at their website.
