Research funded by DARPAs Microphysiological Systems program is transitioning to the commercial world! The organ-on-a-chip technology developed by Harvards Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering is set to be commercialized by Emulate Inc. The chips, which replicate the functionality of human tissue and organs, could help to accelerate the development of pharmaceutical, chemical, and personalized medicine products. They should also reduce the need for traditional animal testing of such products.
