Researching the Rottweiler as a breed is informative, enlightening, and makes one shutter at the thought of the contradiction this breed encounters as a shelter guest. Mosimo has arrived at NYCACC as a stray, hard to miss at one hundred and thirty seven pounds. This handsome Rottweiler is barely a senior at seven years old and his beautiful brown and black coat enhances his large but stately structure. The shelter is a scary place and even the big guys are nervous, the ceremonious intake was not really Mosimos cup of tea. Breeds that work and control in their bloodlines find strangers prodding a little disheartening but we did learn he has some dental tartar plus calluses on his elbows and hocks. Glad that was over, he had a few days to watch what was going on and when he went for his SAFER, the assessor was even able to pet and collar him. The breeds territorial instincts kicked in when he was more interested in the surroundings of the testing area, but he carried on, even being complimented as calm and relaxed during the tag test. His handling improved from intake yet still a little uneasy. Then the Rottweiller bred to be eager to work showed off some of his guarding skills for the assessor. He worked hard guarding the food, toy, and rawhide. He did not bite the plastic hand but he did stiffen and growl. The assessor took his information and his work was noted as New Hope Rescue only business. Voila the destroy list for tomorrow now has Mosimos name on it. This dog needs a foster or adopter who is experienced, ready, and able. We need to advocate for this very misunderstood rottweiller and get him on track with an experienced person. There is a deadline of twelve noon tomorrow and this working breed wants to show his assets to appreciative eyes.
