Residents are desperately seeking answers to prevent violence, such as the disturbing recent incidents highlighted in the media -- particularly the unusual large number of officer-involved shootings of men of color. This Sunday, August 31 from 2 PM to 5 PM, violence prevention expert, Aquil Basheer, will present “A Comprehensive, Solution-Based Conversation, the second in a series of local discussions to empower communities and develop solutions and save lives. The location is the African American Firefighter Museum, 1401 S. Central Avenue in Los Angeles. (Across from the Coca Cola bottling Plant) The event will feature an experienced panel of experts in the fields of violence prevention, mental health, public safety, media, academics and research. In addition to Basheer, the panel will include veteran Los Angeles journalist and Peace In the Hood’ co-author, Christina Hoag; L.A. County Fire Department Captain Brent Burton; LAPD Lead Gang Unit Officer, Sgt. Curtis Woodle; LAPD Gang Liaison Officer and youth mentor, Sgt. Stinson Brown; Lead Faculty member for The Chicago School of Professional Psychology’s Forensic Psychology Department, Dr. Debra Warner, (Psy.D.); and USC Professor of Social Work, Robert Hernandez. Please come out and get your questions answered, but most importantly, leave empowered. The event and parking are free. Please spread the word to a single mother raising a young man or anyone who needs this info. I case you missed the first community conversation ... https://youtube/watch?v=xHxzzrp8pQ0
