The short answer is: No. SRCH2 is not a semantic engine. SRCH2 takes an algorithmic approach, regardless of the device it sits on. (It is true that SRCH2 can run on a handset or on the cloud, but that is a different discussion.) In all cases, it is the same engine. The engine enables the developer to define fuzzy characteristics by parameter, including number of typos to tolerate, and edit distance. SRCH2 also lets the developer maintain custom rankings for fuzzy results, and also enables fuzzy keyword search on spatial data, while maintaining weighted rankings. This gives the developer a high ability to tune the engine to support relevant type-ahead results. Notice, that in all cases, we are not doing “semantic” search, unless you broaden the definition of “semantic” to include algorithmic approaches. That said, it is true that giving the developer new tools and a higher degree of nuance to train the engine can result in a user search experience which is highly relevant, and which appears intuitive.
