Response to Todays The Columbus Dispatch LTE: What exactly gives bicyclists as much right to the road as anyone else? I am a bicyclist AND I own a car, pay car insurance, pay motor vehicle operator license fees and license plates. So YES, I do all the things you said. Somehow you equate the privilege of using the roads with paying a fair share. Why is it only bicyclists who are targeted - many are not paying a fair share for the privilege. Pedestrians using a crosswalk should have a license. Children, elderly and disabled people being driven around have not paid in, get them off the road. I dont see you complaining about how little trucks pay in, why is that? Do you understand how much of your tax dollars are being used to subsidize the damage imposed by the trucking industry? The fees and gas tax they pay are only a sliver of the funds ODOT uses to repair the wear and tear. I do know that many people get angry when they have to pause and wait for a moment to safely pass a bicyclist, that is a huge problem that needs to change, starting with people like you. Help me understand, so in your ideal world, where bicyclists have no right to the road, you are saying motorists would have the right to hit a bicyclist who used your privileged road? I think that is a pretty evil perspective toward a fellow human being. - Jody dispatch/content/stories/editorials/2014/04/13/satterfield-gc6rursj-1.html
