Response to the Trayvon Martin Case by Pastor Samuel E. Trusty, Sr. Pastor/Teacher The Trayvon Martin case although it was widely publicized, it was paradoxical and problematic. The reason the case was paradoxical is because it reflects something greater than the actual crime. We learned in the Book of Revelation and especially as we study the Book of Jeremiah that there is wickedness on every level whether inside or outside of the religious circle. In the Book of Revelation we learned that as the end times approach that all systems are going to unify and there is going to be wickedness in all places. This is also a reflection of Paul’s writing in Ephesians as he exhorts us to “put on the whole armor of God…for we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” It is also paradoxical because of the wide spread wickedness in the world and our need for a Sovereign God. It’s problematic because we as Christians feel powerless and the problem is sad and sorrowful because it was a young unarmed African American youth killed for no reason. We as Christians have to look at these things from our spiritual lens. As we look at it through our spiritual lens it ought to prompt you to understand the signs of the time, the strategies of Satan and the strength of the saints when situations like this arise, we as a church should come together in prayer. We should ask God to empower us to be the pillars of our community and we should ask God to educate us on Scriptures that we might share with those who have no faith and no hope. In closing, we should be reminded that not only in death, but in difficult times that we don’t mourn like those who have no hope but we reach out to a Sovereign God who can correct any injustice that rears its ugly head. We have hope and we should remain hopeful that God will exercise judgment for the righteous and unrighteous and even in this time He will strengthen us. So I would like to encourage you with what the Psalmist declares in Psalms 121:1-8. The Psalmist writes, "I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore." If this encourage you "hit like and/or share!"
