Result: Red Army 7-4 White City The Red Army made it back to back wins after a 7-4 victory over White City in a pulsating encounter. Following last weeks win over Bruin it was important the Reds built on that and put in a good performance against second placed White City. They did just that with a performance full of flair, determination and sublime finishing to record back to back victories for the first time since the famous 2010 Red Army completed 6 wins in a row en route to a semi final in the League Cup. The 3,000 travelling supporters were eagerly anticipating the tantalising prospect of Richard Bellis, George Maradona and Benedict Keatinge all playing together, they were not disappointed. The three players combined wonderfully through out the game and gave the City defence a torrid night, scoring all seven goals between them. White City were coming into the game in fine form, despite losing their opening game of the season like the Reds, they had won back to back games scoring 15 goals in the process. Manager/Captain, Sab Muthusamy highlighted the need to be sharp in defence particularly with City being so quick and deadly on the counter. City started well, making some great moves and testing keeper Mote Keatinge early on but The Red Army settled any nerves as George Maradona opened the scoring after being put through by Bellis. Further great play from Keatinge and Maradona allowed Keatinge with the chance to shoot and he took his chance beautifully with a lovely finish to make it 2-0. Chances came thick and fast for the Red army who could have been out of sight before the half time whistle. However, City were a persistent threat throughout and but for Keatinge, they could have been level. Their pressure eventually paid off as they pulled a goal back thanks to a lovely finish to make it 2-1. Richard Bellis made it feel like he had never been away from The Red army as he made it 3-1 shortly after. He took the ball in midfield and skipped past two players before drilling in a low show into the bottom right corner. The Reds went into half time in the ascendancy and victory looking likely. However, City started the second half strongly and piled on early pressure and another sublime effort from one of their strikers beat Keatinge to bring them back into the game at 3-2. The Reds however, refused to be fazed by this and continued to attack the City defence and Maradona scored perhaps the goal of the season so far. He was put through by Keatinge and whilst tussling with a defender unleashed a unstoppable shot into the top left corner to restore the two goal advantage. The Reds put clear daylight between them and City as they scored another bizarre goal from a free kick. Maradona took the free kick which rebounded of Benedict Keatinge and looped over the keeper to make it 5-2. City however refused to lie down and continued to believe they could come back into the game and pressed in search of a way back into the game. They managed to pull it back to 5-3 through yet another stunning finish but The Red Army were calm and it soon became 6-3 after Maradona converted a penalty to complete his hat trick. IT was a rather strange decision to award the penalty as Bellis went on to score only for the goal to be ruled out after a defender challenged Maradona. City pulled another goal back to make it 6-4 but there was one final act in the drama as City were caught on the counter which left Maradona and Bellis through on goal with no defence present. Neat play from Maradona allowed for Bellis to tap in his 2nd and The Red armys 7th of the game, the first time they had ever scored 7 goals. The win now gives the Reds some much needed momentum after a poor start to the season with two straight defeats in their opening game. Sab Muthusamy was buoyed by the result and hoped that the win would be the platform to launch an assault on the top of the division. He said, It was a tremendous performance, we controlled the game from start to finish and we fully deserved our win. This was gone some way to erasing the damage caused by our poor start. Like we said, this was the first time The Reds won back to back games since the legendary team of 2010 did so. Muthusamy and Bellis are the only surviving members from that side and when asked about winning two games in a row Muthusamy said, It feels good, i wish this kind of thing came about more often because let me tell you, winning two games in a row is a big deal, a huge one. Im feeling nostalgic, we had such a great team back then who created many wonderful memories and we are trying to do the same with this team. Richard coming in as been a massive boost and the game changer, that front three could rival any in world football. You can keep your falcaos, van persies, Di Marias and Rooneys....theres no stopping Bellis, Maradona and Keatinge. Man of the Match: Sab Muthusamy
