Results and match reports from todays action: U13 Rovers 0 Carnmoney FDC 1 An unusually poor performance all round today at Rathcoole left Mark Gourleys Rovers tasting league defeat for the first time this calendar year. Even with a below par performance a draw might have been a fairer result however. Antrim Rovers started the better team and had Carnmoney pinned into their own box, producing several corners in the first 10 mins, unfortunately few of these attacking opportunities resulted in the opposition goalkeeper having to make a save of any note. Carnmoneys goal came midway through the first half when a long clearance out from the edge of their own box dropped behind the high line of Rovers defence and allowed the opposition forward to just nick the ball around an advancing Ihan Westerhuis to score into an empty goal. The 2nd half saw another stuttering performance from Rovers, rarely getting the ball down and producing any of the high standard of passing which has been their trademark so far this season. Highlight being a world class save from Ihan Westerhuis from one of the few chances created to keep Rovers in the game. Overall, a bad result in Rovers push for promotion, but an opportunity for the Antrim lads to show their character! U14 Rovers 2 Shaftesbury 6 U14s good run of league results came to a halt today when a shocking second half performance saw them loose 6-2 to Shaftesbury Fc on the 3g pitch at Grosvener . Rovers should have been 3 goals to the good in the first half but a lack of desire to attack the ball on the goal ine saw the chances go to waste. With regular keeper Jamie Sempey missing the game Ashton Gilmore had to step in and had a torrid time behind a Rovers defence who were having their worst game of the season. Rovers trailed 2 -1 at half time thanks to a fine goal from Jay Burton. Rovers never got going in the second half but got a lucky break when a Shaftesbury player scored an own goal, however this did little to inspire Rovers who also saw capt Ellis Morrisons spot kick saved. Shaftesbury deserved their win but Rovers made it far to easy with a woeful team performance, manager Jim Mccullough and Coach kenny Clarke were annoyed with the lack of passion today after a string of previous excellent displays in the league. Only plus point today was the return of Ryan Worthington after a lengthy absence. U15 Rovers 2 Aquinas 0 Another great win today, a solid performance from the start with harry mcnally hitting the post and another few missed chances but it was midway through the first half when great play from the back, got the ball to scott wilson who turned 2 players and a great ball to top scorer dermott mcerlain who finished into the far corner. Rovers kept up the pressure in the second half when a scott wilson corner dropped to rory at the edge of the box and he gave the keeper no chance with his goal,a clean sheet and another great win ,Alan Potter, Grant Whiteside and Wes McFarland were proud of the whole team, keep up the good work antrim rovers. U16 Rovers 0 Larne 1 U16 were unlucky today in a hard fought match against larne at a windy 3 mile park. First half extremely close with rovers unlucky not to take the lead on two occasions as refs decisions disallowed goals and a great save from the larne keeper as he clawed away a goal bound deflection from his own player. Playing against a strong wind the team put in a hard shift .The team continued to work hard and turned at half time 0-0. Playing with a really strong wind at our backs proved difficult on a small pitch and it was a struggle to keep the ball in play. The lads continued to work hard and were unfortunate to go a goal behind. The workrate did not slacken and they just could not get the run of the ball and finished up losing 1-0 to a strong larne team. Another great effort today and we were unfortunate to lose. *This match completes our U16s league programme. Manager, Roy McKane would like to say a big thank you to the team for the effort they have put in this year. The improvement has been very noticeable and credit must be given to each player. A big thank you must go to all parents who helped in a variety of ways throughout the year. We will continue to train and try and finish the season off with a few friendlies. Thanks to all the players for their effort this year and to Mark Mc Kane for his help as coach. Remember this squad will form the U17s squad for next season, so things are looking good for next year. Thanks again. U17 Rovers 0 St Patricks 6 U17s were beaten 6 nil by a quality St Pats team at Mossley Mill. Bad day at the office for the Rovers, individual errors and slack defending from St Pats throw ins saw them 2 nil down at half time. Rovers started brighter in the 2nd half, but a 3rd goal from St Pats and the Rovers heads went down. A hugely disappointing result for the Under 17s, who had been on a good run recently. Manager, Alvin Pierce, pointed to Skipper Cameron Staveleys performance as one of the few highlights on a day when the overall team attitude and hunger was sadly lacking.
