Results for Tuesday Night - Track Racing 25 November 2014 It was another exciting night of racing for the Colac Cycling Club. The club hosted its first Come and Try Night where members were encouraged to bring a friend. An extra 10 riders were included in the nights program – all juniors which included 2 additions to our little pink ladies section. The come and try program followed the same format for all new riders, introducing them to a track bike and track racing and then participate in an individual time trial. Without hesitation the new riders were happy to take to the track and experience the fixed wheel. We look forward to seeing them return to the track and further growing our junior numbers. Race Results for November 25 2014 The success of the Colac Cycling Clubs weekly track racing continues to grow and the number of riders participating has not been seen since the 80s. 15 juniors (2 little pink ladies) and 11 seniors took part in the night’s racing – with some notable absence from regular riders. It was great for the club and the sport to see the return of Zac Shaw, World Champ to the racing program. The format for the Junior racing included – 1 Lap handicap, 2 Lap handicap and 3 Lap Scratch race. Race 1 – Group 1 1 Lap Handicap Name Mark Place Patrick Allan Scr 2 Harriet OHanlon 15m 1 Ty Widdicombe 25m 6 Nick Callahan 40m 4 Annabelle Stoddart 80m 3 Kate Allan 85m 5 Front marker Annabelle Stoddart, did well to hold her lead until the final 120 metres when back markers Harriet O’Hanlon and Patrick Allan caught Stoddart to claim 1st and 2nd respectively and Stoddart just snatching 3rd place ahead of Nick Callahan who continues to throw the challenge out to Allan and O’Hanlon. Race 2 – Group 2 1 Lap Handicap Name Mark Jack Alllan Scr 7 Lachlan Stoddart 20m 4 Lachlan Lenehan 40m 2 Liam Bell 70m 5 Adam McCarney 80m 3 Fraser McDonald 85m 6 Kynan Hose 105m 1 It was a similar result in the second race, with again the front marker Kynan Hose claiming first place. Kynan continues to grow in confidence and skill on the track bike and while his win was from the front, other riders were lifted out this week which meant Hose had to be committed from the whistle. Race 3 – Senior 8 Lap Scratch Race Zac Shaw 1 Scott OHanlon 2 Andrew Cox 3 John Pearson (Camp) 4 With the return of Zac Shaw to the field, regular scratchmen Andrew Cox had his work cut out for him. The battle of Cox and Shaw was evident from the outset. It was Shaw in the end who took the honours from Scott O’Hanlon and Andrew Cox. Race 4 -Little Pink Ladies - 1 Lap Handicap Sophie Bell Scr 2 Georgia Oates 15m 1 Sally Cox 65m 3 Sara Stewart 80m 4 After time trialling the Little Pink Ladies and getting an idea for handicapping – the little girls on bikes ranging from 12” to 16” (some even on training wheels) took part in a 1 lap for handicap. The perfectly handicapped race saw the more senior of the juniors – Georgia Oates, Sally Cox, Sophie Bell and Sara Stewart bunch together at the 100 metres to go mark. It was a close tussle with Georgia taking the line honours from seasoned pink ladies – Sophie Bell and Sally Cox. Race 5 –Juniors Group 1 – 2 Lap Handicap Name Mark Place Patrick Allan Scr 1 Harriet OHanlon 30m 2 Ty Widdicombe 80m 3 Nick Callahan 75m 4 Kate Allan 130m 5 Annabelle Stoddart 120m 6 It is again evident that some riders are more suited to the longer distance handicaps, again the rivalry between O’Hanlon and Allan seen Allan taking the honours from O’Hanlon with Ty Widdicombe taking 3rd from a determined Nick Callahan. Race 6 – Juniors Group 2 -2 Lap Handicap Name Mark Place Fraser McDonald 165m 1 Adam McCarney 130m 2 Lachlan Lenehan 35m 3 Lachlan Stoddart 55m 4 Liam Bell 125m 5 Kynan Hose 150m 6 Jack Alllan Scr 7 Fraser McDonald claimed podium honours in the Group 2 2 Lap handicap, his first win for the season. Fraser has been a consistent front marker and this week was able to hold off Adam McCarney and back marker Lachlan Lenehan. Race 7 – Seniors 2 Lap Handicap Seniors (31.6s) Mark Place Sandy Maxwell 120m 1 Zac Shaw -10m 2 John Pearson (Camp) 70m 3 Neil Widdicombe 150m 4 In the senior 2 lap handicap it was Sandy Maxwell, followed by Zac Shaw and Anthony McDonald. It was a great win for Maxwell who has been concentrating on his mountain bike skills has made the return to the track after 8 years absence. Half a bike length separate Maxwell from Shaw who started 10 metres behind track. Like son Fraser, Anthony McDonald was in the medals with 3rd this week. Shaw’s final lap – 31.6s. Race 8 – Junior Group 1 – 3 Lap Scratch Race Name Place Patrick Allan 1 Nick Callahan 2 Harriet OHanlon 3 Ty Widdicombe 4 Annabelle Stoddart 5 Kate Allan 6 Race 9 – Junior Group 2 – 3 Lap Scratch Race Name Place Jack Alllan 1 Lachlan Stoddart 2 Lachlan Lenehan 3 Liam Bell 4 Adam McCarney 5 Fraser McDonald 6 Kynan Hose 7 The scratch races for our juniors have been a challenge. The need for tactics and strategy is a skill that will come with more practice opportunity’s during the season. The dominant riders of Group 1 – Allan, Callahan and O’Hanlon – secured the first 3 places. Group 2 saw fellow backmarkers Jack Allan and Lachlan Stoddart, take to the front at the onset and stay there to claim first and second honours with Lachlan Lenehan taking third. Race 10 – B Grade 10 Lap Motor Pace Name Place Anthony McDonald 1 Jack Barclay 2 Neil Widdicombe 3 Hamish McDonald 4 George ODwyer 5 Race 11 – A Grade 15 Lap Motor Pace Andrew Cox 1 Scott OHanlon 2 Will Keogh 3 John Pearson 4 Sandy Maxwell 5 The motor paced again proved a popular race for spectators. With the growing numbers in both the senior and junior ranks, the field can now be divided into grades giving all riders an opportunity for podium finishes. In the B Grade 10 Lap Motor Pace it was Anthony McDonald who claimed first place, followed closely behind by Jack Barclay and Neil Widdicombe. It was a great ride from the powerhouse McDonald who like son Fraser, takes home his first win – winner winner Chicken dinner in the McDonald household this week. In the A Grade 15 Lap Motor Pace, honours went home with Andrew Cox. Cox coming back from illness managed to take the win from Scott O’Hanlon and Will Keogh. The final lap recording 32s.
