Review : Bajatey Raho – Mindless comedy caper Release date: 26 July 2013 Producer : Sunil A Lulla Director : Shashant Shah Music Director : Jaidev Kumar Starring: Tusshar Kapoor,Vinay Pathak,Ranvir Shorey Filmmaker Shashank Shah, who made his Bollywood debut with the much acclaimed Dasvidaniya, is back with a revenge comedy featuring Tusshar Kapoor, Ranvir Shorey, Vinay Pathak, Ravi Kishan, Dolly Ahluwalia and Vishakha Singh. The movie has released today and let’s see how it is. Story: Mummyji (Dolly Ahluwalia) and her gang of con-artists that include her son Sukhi (Tusshar Kapoor), Ballu (Ranvir Shorey), Mintoo (Vinay Pathak) and Manpreet (Vishakha Singh) make a plan to cheat a cunning businessman named Sabharwal (Ravi Kisan). The reason for this being that Sabharwal had once conned Mummyji’s husband which resulted in his unfortunate death. This team works together and the entire team member play their parts to get money out of Sabbarwal’s illegal businesses. The rest of the film is about how the gang manages to squeeze money from the rich and cunning Sabbarwal. Plus Points: Every character in ‘Bajate Raho’ is good in their individual track. Dolly Ahluwalia, who was a laugh riot in Vicky Donor, has done a decent job. She plays the captain of the con team and plays her part perfectly. Ranveer Shorey is amusing as usual. Ravi Kisan’s performance is believable as the cunning businessman and leaves an impact with his acting. Another commendable performance is by Brijendra Kala, who plays Ravi’s secretary in the film, and he is absolutely superb in a small role. Negative Points: It is surprising to see how a director of an acclaimed movie like Challo Dilli can make a film like Bajate Raho. The film is nowhere close to Chalo Dilli when it comes to comedy and execution. Though promoted as a comedy caper, the film lacks humorous dialogues. The movie makes us think whether Tusshar is best suited for playing a mute character as he did in the Golmaal series. His dialogue delivery in this film can be described as bizarre. Vishakha Singh has got her big chance in Bollywood but fails to impress. Vinay Pathak has a serious role in the film which does not suit his image at all. Technical Aspects: The one good thing is the film are some of its songs. The Naagin and Mata Ki Chowki tracks will definitely make your feet move. The direction and execution by Shashant is below par with the scenes not linked to each other and they seem to come out of nowhere. There are a lot of unwanted sequences in the film and the romantic track between Tusshar and Vishakha appears funny while it is supposed to be romantic! Arun Varma’s cinematography is just run of the mill while editing by Aseem Sinha is blunt and make the sequences appear disconnected. The background score is just about average. Verdict: On the whole, Bajate Raho falls flat in the first half but has a decent second half. Even the talented start cast could not save the film from sinking.
