Revitalization of abandoned and old buildings in George Town inner city particularly and Penang state generally, must not involve the process of chasing the residents away. People are the soul of a place. Without people, therell only be dead buildings, serving no purpose. Conservation or preservation of heritage buildings is not adding another new structure in front, on top or at the back of it. Such an ironic and hypocrisy of a state government if preservation guidelines only apply for buildings within core zone and buffer zone. Oh, so buildings out of these two zones are not considered as old, with values and deserved to be preserved? Travelers, backpackers, foreigners are here in Penang island not just to see the concentrated so called core zone or buffer zone, but the entire island. It would be so funny and contradictory to see heritage buildings in one perimeter and glasses concrete jungle outside the perimeter. This is just my two cents.
