Rhode Island NOT on the list ! HOWEVER, I speak the following on behalf of all the Servers with whom I work every week ... News flash folks ... Servers make an average of $2.50 per hour in the year 2014 AD ... which after taxes leaves them with pretty much a ZERO paycheck. PATHETIC. A Servers life is DIFFICULT and its the equivalent of an ox pulling a cart in a field. I am employed in a well known large restaurant in my county in the State of Rhode Island. Servers rely 100% on tips in order to provide for their families! Have any of you carried 75-lb trays 35 times per shift with a smile on your face? In the restaurant of my employ, they do ! Have any of you ever busted your butt to make SURE that a complete STRANGERS dining experience was nothing less than wonderful and memorable? In the restaurant of my employ, they do ! FYI everyone ... Gratuity in EVERY restaurant in the USA is now 20% whether youre having breakfast at a diner, a meal at a family-style restaurant, or a formal dinner in a 5-Star Establishment. Granted, weve all run into the occasional Server whos either training, or having an off night. They are only HUMAN. BE KIND ... Thats the Law of KARMA ! No excuses, of course, for straight up rude service (NOT where I work, by the way). Just remember one thing ... could YOU survive on $2.50 per hour? TWENTY PERCENT EVERY TIME YOU SIGN YOUR CREDIT CARD SLIP. PERIOD. You Reap What You Sow Kids :)
