Ribadu stays put in the APC; Gov. Kwankwaso says decamping to PDP will be a “big mistake” Posted By TheScoop on August 15, 2014 There have been wide speculations that the former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Nuhu Ribadu, had concluded plans to dump the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Following the impeachment of Murtala Nyako, the former governor of the state, the people of Adamawa will head to the poll to elect a new governor in October and a lot of the early chatter has been about Ribadu and his alleged plans to decamp to the PDP. Some reports claimed that he intended to make the move as early as yesterday. However, as at yesterday, he was still in Abuja. Leadership newspaper is reporting that Ribadu’s failure to join the PDP so far is due to the inability of the tripartite parties, that is, Ribadu, the Presidency and the top echelon of the PDP, to firm up an arrangements intended to smoothen things for him to pick the party’s governorship ticket on a platter. He began to have second thoughts when it became obvious that even though Pres. Goodluck Jonathan wants him to get a waiver and ultimately the ticket, some powerful power blocs within the party insisted he must go through the party primary like others. Ribadu reportedly has fears that this could make him leave the APC only to get rubbished in the PDP. According to Ribadu’s media aide, Abdulaziz Fagge, yesterday,his principal was not in Adamawa to register as a member of the PDP. “As I am talking to you, Malam Nuhu Ribadu is in Abuja; he is not in Adamawa as being speculated”, Fagge said. Meanwhile, the governor of Kano state, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has advised Ribadu not to leave the APC as such a move could be fatal for his political career. Speaking to journalists in Kano, Kwankwaso said, “Ribadu is widely known as a man of integrity and I can remember that when he was the chairman of EFCC, he did his job very well. My advice to him is not to join the PDP because at the end, he will be the biggest loser. “Most of those in the PDP were indicted for corruption by him and now they want him to join them; I believe at the end, they will also begin to haunt him. “If he joins their party, which I believe he cannot make that mistake, but if he joins them, that means all what we are talking about him is wrong. In my opinion it will be a big political mistake.” Kwankwaso added: “In my own opinion, it will be better for him to remain in the All Progressive Congress (APC) because people see him as man of his word not someone who is going to be desperate for power
