Richard Howitt, Member of the European Parliament and Labour Foreign Affairs Spokesperson, spoke out on police brutality at the Hong Kong protests during a parliamentary debate in the European Parliament on Wednesday, October 22. He recounted how a student protester had told him that the umbrella was not simply a symbol of their protest but their only defence against attacks by police and pro-establishment mobs. He further questioned why did his country United Kingdom , one of the signatory of the 1984 Sino-British Joint Declaration, would grant seven export licences to allow the export of £180,000 of tear and CS gas to Hong Kong that undoubtedly will be used against the protesters. Video of the debate/ 議會辯論錄象: europarl.europa.eu/ep-live/en/plenary/video?intervention=1413991592849 eureporter.co/world/2014/10/22/plea-against-uk-tear-gas-exports-to-hong-kong-delivered-in-european-parliament/ #OccupyHK #UmbrellaMovement #UMHK #HKProtest
