Rick Cline will host his yearly Steel Drum and African Drumming workshops again this year at the S.A.L.T. Block in the Western Piedmont Rehearsal Hall. The steel drum workshop is June 17-21 from 7-9pm each night. Cline aims to expose the class to Caribbean music and history of the steel drums as well as how to play this exotic instrument. The cost for the steel drum camp is $90 and the only requirement is some ability to read music. TheAfrican Drumming camp is June 24-28 from 7:30- 9pm and is also located in the symphony hall. The cost is $90. This class will aim to teach basic hand drumming techniques, basic history, as well as improvisation. No instruments are required for either workshop. A public performance will conclude the workshop on Friday pm the week of the camp at 5:30pm under the Sails in downtown Hickory . To sign up call 828-308-0551 or email rickclinenc@gmail.
