Riding from the city lights into the country night, the darkness becomes all encompassing. In the shadows of ink it appears that all is swallowed up, until flashes illuminate the sky in the distance. The clouds, which were invisible just moments ago, become fireballs which glow as jagged sticks of lightning pierce them. It is a show of power and the shadows flee every few seconds succumbing to the brightness. The impression is that the lightning is competing with the mostly-full moon for attention. Across the sky, the moon tries to hide behind the clouds. Unsuccessfully. The glow cannot be missed even though the moon itself is not in view. The lightning challenges. The moon peeks around the cloud to size up the competition. Deciding to join the contest, it inches its way as if it doesn’t want to overwhelm the sky with light too quickly. It savors every small movement and the clouds glow black. How is that even possible? Then in order to settle the matter once and for all, the moon comes into full view, shattering the darkness. This battle is won clearly by the moon as is evidenced by its smiling face.
