Right before dismissal today, it began to storm and storm, which I took as a sign from above to stay in my classroom and get some stuff done. After an hour, I decided to make a mad dash through the pouring rain to my car and got drenched...needless to say I was not in the best mood. So I decided to take advantage of Happy Hour at Sonic. As I am backing up my car to leave, I hear someone yell "Ms. Myers!". I was a bit startled because no one has called me that in almost four years since I got married. I look over and see someone running through the rain towards my car and when he got closer I recognized him as one of my 8th grade students from my first year of teaching. As I rolled down the window to say hello with a big smile on my face, I got the biggest hug ever from him and he went on to say how happy he was to see me and how he would never forget my face or the things I did for him. He told me how I had played a pivotal part in helping him graduate high school and that he was so glad he got the chance to thank me. I left Sonic with a huge smile and tears rolling down my cheek. If anyone wants to know why I do what I do and continue to push myself to be the best teacher possible, there is no better explanation than this afternoon. :)
