Right now, the dominant religion of the world is liberal democracy. It is a religion because speaking against it is heresy. But to be a democracy, we have to be liberal enough to appreciate differences and accommodate diversity. Scientific education, however, does not allow for it. Science begins with mistrust and seeks the truth through evidence, reasoning, or testimony. One has to constantly prove the validity of statements made. There is no faith, or allowance. We seek to constantly covert people to the rational discourse. But we are unaware of the underlying missionary zeal, the same zeal that led to the destruction of thousands of tribes in colonial times. Today the market is fuelling our zeal and since we have rationalized it, we deem destruction of cultures okay, pointing out to the many human right flaws embedded within cultural practices. So we allow diversity only when the other thinks like us. There is nothing liberal about this. This cannot nourish democracy.
