Robert A. Sirleaf sets for Montserrado Senatorial race. Ending all speculations about his participation in the Special Senatorial Election in October, Mr. Robert Alvin Sirleaf, son of President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, is set to receive petition in Monrovia today to contest for the senate. A group under the banner, Montserrado Redemption Squash has announced plans to petition Mr. Sirleaf today, Monday, to contest for the Montserrado County Senatorial Seat on October 14, 2014. Speaking to The NewDawn Sunday, Mr. Joel Armah Hansford, said the petitioning ceremony for Mr. Sirleaf is today, Monday. He said the world knows that Montserrado, being the first county in the Republic, deserves better representation. The petition ceremony is expected to bring together thousands of supporters, sympathizers and well wishers to be held at the Doe Community Sports pitch on Bushrod Island, outskirt of Monrovia. The event will commence with a parade of supporters thru Bushrod Island before converging at the sport stadium where a petition is to be formally read and presented to Mr. Sirleaf, former Board Chairperson of the National Oil Company of Liberia, whose pro bono services was characterized by huge public criticisms. Speaking further, Joel said since his return to the country, Mr. Sirleaf has made several contributions to socio-economic development, including construction of mini stadiums throughout the country and awarding of local and international scholarships to thousands of Liberian youths It is not yet clear whether Mr. Sirleaf will contest the pending senatorial election as an independent candidate or on the ticket of a political party. If he accepts today’s petition, the aspirant will challenge Ambassador George Weah of the Congress for Democratic Change. Weah’s CDC has had a strong grip on Montserrado County, where the party has swept the polls in previous legislative election since 2005. A few months following his exit from government, Bob Sirleaf was reappointed by his mother (President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf) as Ambassador to Kuwait. Formerly senior advisor to the President, he tipped by his mother to lead negotiations with the Kuwaiti government for cheap petroleum products for Liberia. Mr. Robert Sirleaf is an experienced and professional investment banker, who served in Corporate America as Managing Director at Wachovia Securities besides other high level positions on Wall Street.
